The UNITA-UNIVERSITAS MONTIUM EUROPEAN ECONOMIC INTEREST GROUPING (EEIG), based on Regulation (EEC) No. 2137/85, was registered in Turin on 25 January 2023.
Purpose and Governance
The EEIG serves the UNITA – Universitas Montium alliance and facilitates cooperation between its members while remaining under their control. It respects each member’s specificity, maintaining a social purpose auxiliary to their institutional activities. Governance is shared, based on a permanent structure and a project approach defined by mutual agreement of the member universities.
Activities and Services
The EEIG enables UNITA members to offer:
Multidisciplinary courses and excellence training to students
Strengthened partnerships for researchers to promote regional innovation within a European framework
Certifications and microcredentials recognized by all UNITA partners
Professional training courses, distance learning (including MOOCs), summer/winter schools, conferences, symposia, and other dissemination events in collaboration with public or private partners
Emphasizing its European character, the EEIG strengthens the alliance’s international influence and attractiveness.
Future Development
The EEIG’s main objective is to support its members in balancing higher education, research, and innovation. Planned hires include a full-time General Director, a Project Engine Office, and three IT experts (either directly by the Grouping or seconded by partners) to pilot joint recruitment of administrative and technical staff.
Expansion
The EEIG may incorporate additional regional or national public higher-education and research institutions, major research organizations, and other public or private research or teaching partners. Enhanced cooperation agreements can also be signed with external partners.
